I just wanted to broadcast that the new Tron 2.0 Movie is being filmed right now in Burnaby, BC, Canada
http://www.tron-sector.com/

"Be sure to mark your calenders for July 22nd to the 27th!
During that time, the new TRON 2 trailer will be shown at
Comic Con '09 in San Diego. Hopefully Disney will release
this one to the public soon. *crosses fingers*"

I don't quite get this huge fascination with Tron. I mean it looked pretty sweet, but it wasn't really an earthshaking story, as far as I remember. I liked Wargames much more (but of course, it's been a while since I saw that).

Tron was groundbreaking in that it was the first movie to use computers in the creation of effects and animation. On the DVD there is a great documentary on the making of it. Very interesting.

Though I have to agree, not as exciting as something like war games but it thrilled the Pac Man Geek generation and opened up new ideas. Looking back the basis was awesome but the story was weak. Let's hope they can fix the story and Blast us with some great stuff - It will all depend on the script because we've all seen the CG done to death and it can't survive on that basis alone!

I don't think I could handle a store full of Tron Action figures and Tron "Throwing Discs" all over again. Hmmm... (Frisbee might be leading this one... )

Very cool. Looking forward to this one. (even though I'm prepared to be disappointed)

I don't like building myself up for disappointment, so I'm just gonna say that this will be the best movie ever made, ever.

ever.

Now that video Games are so much more advanced when they first came out, Imagine what the game world might look like, They actually look like WoW characters! - But if they did, would they still throw discs?

3 Clues from IMDB that Tron 2 will most likely suck.

-The director has no film credits. He is a commercial director, famous for directing Halo and Gears of War commercials, which were largely compiled footage from video games.

-They ditched composer Wendy Carlos for the band Daft Punk. Wendy Carlos' original score went a long way to help define the vibe and feel of the original film. Daft Punk is great at crafting novelty ditties, but they probably don't have the depth to pull this off.

-4 writers. Too many cooks in the kitchen usually means major script problems.

That said, I'll probably see it at midnight on opening day.

I'd actually much rather see a faithful, open-world video game adaptation of the original film. Grand Theft Light Cycle
